Death, Judgment, Hell, and Heaven – Adam Clarke

Metallic paralyzed teeth rejoice
At the sound of the spectre’s voice
Alas, the masses seek the answer
Some grow rich, some rot from cancer
Despair to stillness, all is revealed
Life is chaos, a spinning wheel
We all are one and nothing’s real
Nothingness is real

The fire burns, the fire burns
As leaves they fall and twist and turn
Gather thoughts to be unlearned
Wooden cribs to marble urns

Oneness revealed
Observed/observer

Conscious carbon from a dying star
Living, breathing, searching for a cause
Everything around us observes itself through us

–Zao, “Observed/Observer”–

How Do We Cope With Tragic Suffering and Death? – Ken Ham

Those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them, do you think that they were worse sinners than all other men who dwelt in Jerusalem? I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish.

Camp Mystic: A Nondenominational Christian Camp

Is thine heart right, as my heart is with thy heart?
–2 Kings 10:15 (KJV)–

Richard J. Foster, Streams of Living Water (HarperCollins, 1998).

John Wesley, “Catholic Spirit.”

Thomas C. Oden, Classic Christianity: A Systematic Theology (HarperCollins, 2009).

A. W. Tozer, The Pursuit of God (Christian Publications, 1993).

—. The Christian Book of Mystical Verse (Christian Publications, 1991). Mostly songs and poems about spiritual subjects; there could be some prophetic poetry in here as well–that is, dream interpretations set to poetry, like the writings of the Old Testament prophets probably were compiled.

Robert Tuttle, Mysticism in the Wesleyan Tradition (Zondervan, 1989). Shows that Wesley was very careful about what he borrowed from the writings of Christian mystics–what he called separating the gold from the dross–his favorites are found in “A Christian Library,” such as Macarius of Egypt, Looking Unto Jesus by Isaac Ambrose, The Spiritual Guide by Michael Molinos, The Spiritual Letters of John of Avila, “Thoughts Concerning the Present Revival,” “The Distinguishing Marks,” and the “Religious Affections” by Jonathan Edwards, The Life of Monsieur De Renty, The Life of Gregory Lopez, Letters by François Fénelon, The Life of Madame Guyon, The Imitation of Christ by Thomas à Kempis, and The Practice of the Presence of God by Brother Lawrence. While Guyon, Molinos, and Fénelon might have said some good things, I would warn their readers to beware of any anti-emotional stoicism or any hyper-prophetic quietism that leads a charismatic to believe that the Holy Spirit supposedly leads Christians, to make the smallest and most insignificant decisions in life, like always where to go and what to buy.

SATIRICAL SONG: Millions of Bones and Years

In the beginning
God created the heaven and the earth
That’s what the Word of God says
On the very first page

But then I went to school
And the science teacher taught me
That the world was formed by itself
Over millions of years

And so the animals began to come about
From different kinds of animals that came before
And starfish turned into dogs and cats
Hedgehogs and monkeys turned into people

The teacher showed us a painting all about it
And that means that it’s the truth
Because dinosaur fossils were found in the ground
That means the world is billions of years old

I was told not to believe in God
And the Bible’s just a fairy tale
That the paintings in my science class were true
And that people are just really smart monkeys

The paintings in my biology book
The pictures in my geology book
The verses in Genesis chapter 1
Some people said to just mix ’em all together
