The interpretation of tongues.
–1 Corinthians 12:10 (ESV)–
Since you are eager for manifestations of the Spirit, strive to excel in building up the church. Therefore, one who speaks in a tongue should pray that he may interpret. For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays but my mind is unfruitful.
–1 Corinthians 14:12-14 (ESV)–

Do what you want to do
Say what you want to say to me
I know what you’d like to think of me
This is not real
This can’t be real
This thing I feel
How can I not hate you, hate you
How can I not be free, be free
I know (deep down inside)
How God (reveals Himself)
I know (deep down inside)
To know Him (I must kill pride)
Why do you care so much for me?
What’s in this for you?
Why doesn’t selfishness rule you
Like everybody else?
Let go pride
Let go pride
Cannot deny
Cannot deny
This thing I feel
I feel inside
I know (how God)
I know (how God)
I know to know Him
I must kill pride

Dr. Arrington, although he is a theologian from Church of God (Cleveland), the section I used on this podcast by him, is a synthesis of AG and COG teaching on the interpretation of tongues. Gee and Horton represent the Assemblies of God teaching on miraculous gifts; and they have chapters on tongues. Dr. Deere, Mallone, Wimber, and Jackson represent the developments about teaching on the miraculous gifts that justified the creation of the Vineyard churches, because of the lack of clear Pentecostal teaching on the subjective and psychological aspect of experiencing the Holy Spirit’s miraculous gifts: that is, dreams, visions, inner voices, impressions, and God sent coincidences or signs from God and how to properly interpret and apply this Biblically, symbolically, and under the theological supervision of a seminary educated charismatic pastor and plurality of elders. This eventually came to be called “ministry time” at the end of Vineyard services; and gave birth to a very clear and direct way to apply prophetic ministry, words of knowledge, and healing prayer in a charismatic church setting. Unfortunately, strong evangelistic preaching eventually gave way to a gifts and power emphasis in the Vineyard churches; and this unbalanced emphasis led to independent charismatic churches and the New Apostolic Reformation (NAR). For this reason, David Wilkerson decided to distance himself from the Vineyard churches. But Leonard Ravenhill did accept a few Vineyard invitations only to preach so hard against sin that he was never invited back, as usual.
