WesleyGospel, “Southern Baptist Professor Dr. Tom Schreiner Rejects Literal Hell Fire.” Click here to see Dr. Schreiner completely reject belief in literal hell fire and then say its just a symbolic metaphor. This sort of watered-down modernist theology has been at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (SBTS) in Louisville, Kentucky since the 1950s, ruining the faith of young Southern Baptist pastors and missionaries (SBC); and is what led to the independent fundamental Baptist movement (IFB). I don’t currently have any evidence, but I suspect the same exact dynamic has happened since the 1950s in Pentecostalism: Assemblies of God Theological Seminary (AGTS) and Lee University (Church of God) have probably also been impacted by unbelieving modernist theology and still haven’t recovered from it; and so the true faith of non-hypocrite Bible believing preachers seems to have found its way into IFB churches on the Calvinist side (like Highland Park Baptist Church with Dr. Lee Roberson as pastor); and into small independent holiness-Pentecostal churches on the Wesleyan side (like Times Square Church with David Wilkerson as pastor). But HARD BIBLE PREACHING AGAINST SIN was only kept up by Wilkerson at TSC. Dr. Roberson was apparently somewhat of a softy about separation from the world–which is why David Cloud believes his ministry fell apart after he was gone.
