Sound Doctrine, False Doctrine, False Prophets, and False Teachers

Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. By their fruit you will recognize them.   –Matthew 7:15-16

The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.   –Galatians 5:22-23

Command certain people not to teach false doctrines any longer. –1 Timothy 1:3

…whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine. –1 Timothy 1:10

Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers. –1 Timothy 4:16

The time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. –2 Timothy 4:3

Encourage others by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it. –Titus 1:9

You, however, must teach what is appropriate to sound doctrine. –Titus 2:1

The NIV Study Bible.

Wayne Grudem, Systematic Theology. Wikipedia says that Grudem supports theistic evolution, which I would disagree with personally. I hold to Ken Ham’s view of young earth creation: the six-thousand year view (Genesis 5; 11). I also believe in the Wesleyan doctrines of conditional security and the witness of the Spirit (Heb. 6:4-6; 10:26-31; Rom. 8:16). When it comes to church government, I believe in the fivefold ministry (Eph. 4:11). So for me, I would probably modify these parts of Grudem’s doctrine with “Young Earth Creationism” in Four Views on Creation, Adam Clarke’s Christian Theology, E. S. Williams’ Systematic Theology, Harold Lindstrom’s Wesley and Sanctification, and Bill Hamon’s Apostles, Prophets, and the Coming Moves of God.
