Sir,

I am to acknowledge the receipt of the letter & Pamphlet, which you have been pleased to forward to me by a late conveyance; and to desire you will accept of my best thanks for them.1

You have been rightly informed relative to the application, which had been made to me from Europe, for Documents concerning the Indian Language. It seems that a Society of Literati are endeavouring to make discoveries respecting the origen & derivation of different Languages.2 In the prosecution of this curious study, all judicious philological communications must be important. Yours, I conceive, will not be deficient in that quality. I have long regretted that so many Tribes of the American Aborigines should have become almost or entirely extinct, without leaving such vestiges, as that the genius & idiom of their Languages might be traced. Perhaps, from such sources, the descent or kindred of nations, whose origens are lost in remote antiquity or illiterate darkness, might be more rationally investigated, than in any other mode. The task, you have imposed upon yourself, of preserving some materials for this purpose, is certainly to be commended.

1. Letter not found. Jonathan Edwards (1745–1801) published his Observations on the Language of the Muhhekaneew Indians in New Haven in 1788, a copy of which was in GW’s library at his death. From the age of 6 to 11, Edwards lived with a tribe of the Mohican Indians in Stockbridge and learned their language while his celebrated father was serving as a missionary to them.

In keeping with the cultlike nature of communism, the word FASCIST and the phrase POWER TO THE PEOPLE, are communist expressions that mean a whole lot more to them than they do to non-communists. It is well in keeping with communism to celebrate the killing of Charlie Kirk, which is precisely what so many of them did across America, when one of their own, a homosexual communist named Tyler Robinson, assassinated him and wrote FASCIST on a bullet shell. Mamdani, Bernie Sanders, and AOC should all be investigated by the F.B.I. overtime, because they were involved in these protests; and these expressions represent their ideology of COMMUNISM.

Charles Finney, Sermons on the Way of Salvation (E. J. Goodrich, 1891), p. 195. Another revelation of God’s wrath he makes is in his juridical abandonment of sinners. God manifests his despair of doing any thing more for their salvation when he manifestly withdraws his Spirit and gives them over to hopeless abandonment. Withdrawing his Spirit, he leaves them in great moral blindness. They may have been able to see and to discriminate spiritual things somewhat before, but after God forsakes them, they seem almost utterly void of this power. Everything is dark; all is confused. The light of the Holy Spirit being withdrawn, it were practically vain for the sinner himself or for his sympathizing friends to expect his salvation. This mental darkness over all spiritual things is God’s curse on his rejection of truth, and significantly forebodes his speedy doom.

Just to keep things clear, I don’t recommend that Catholics should marry Protestants and vice versa. That can lead to spiritual confusion. But I have no problem cooperating with Catholics on conservative Christian talking points. Protestants differ from Catholics on Purgatory, progressive justification, relics, prayers to Mary and the saints, the pope, transubstantiation, and confession. These differences make it spiritually confusing for raising children under any meaningful catechism. However, for political causes and joint Christian causes, they have this in common: Jesus, prayer, holiness, the Bible, church attendance, straight marriage, pro-life, and works of mercy. Out of all the Protestants out there, I’d say charismatics and ecumenically minded Wesleyans have the most in common with Catholics. –J.B.
