The Gathering (1998) – A Christian End Times Film

A spiritually insightful, albeit low-budget Christian movie, that has several actors from the film Pilgrim’s Progress (2008), this second movie being one that I’ve watched about twenty times. In The Gathering, the plot revolves around different professionals, some of them born again and some of them atheists. Some of the born again believers see visions of the last days, and it’s suggested that atheists with anti-Christian attitudes that are into religious discrimination against born again Christians in the workplace, are a prophetic foreshadowing of the Great Tribulation; and of the future persecutions that born again believers will one day face under the rule of the Antichrist. It reinforces the idea to me that 1099 projects are much more agreeable to the lifestyle of a born again Christian than is full-time W-2 employment. –J.B.

Mainline Liberalism, Postmodernism, and Progressive Christianity

Immediately the father of the child cried out
and said, “I believe; help my unbelief!”
–Mark 9:24 (ESV)–

Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart,

leading you to fall away from the living God.
–Hebrews 3:12 (ESV)–

The wrath of God is being revealed from Heaven
against all the godlessness and wickedness of people,
who suppress the truth by their wickedness.

–Romans 1:18 (NIV)–

Without faith it is impossible to please God,

because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists
and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

The Last Days Foreseen by Jesus In Matthew 24

The sky grows black as the earth stands still and
Clouds roll back when the Son is revealed

I see Jesus, coming in the Eastern sky
To bring His children home
I see Jesus, coming in the Eastern sky
I’m going home

Cars collide and people die as planes fall from the sky
The graves begin to split and seas open wide

Oh, take me home
Take me home
Take me home
–Disciple, “Going Home”–

A Pastor’s Conscience Called to Account In the Daystar Matter

Now I am writing to you that you must not associate with anyone who claims to be a brother or sister but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or slanderer, a drunkard or swindler. Do not even eat with such people.
–1 Corinthians 5:11 (NIV)–

Come out from them and be separate,
says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing,
    and I will receive you.

–2 Corinthians 6:17 (NIV)–

Looking intently at the council, Paul said,
“Brothers, I have lived my life before God

in all good conscience up to this day.”
–Acts 23:1 (ESV)–

Holding faith and a good conscience.
By rejecting this, some have made shipwreck of their faith.

–1 Timothy 1:19 (ESV)–

You shall take no bribe,
for a bribe blinds the discerning
and perverts the words of the righteous.

–Exodus 23:8 (NKJV)–

There seems to be a death curse on Daystar. It’s just a theory I have:

1. Marcus Lamb confessed to adultery – November 30, 2010.

2. John Paul Jackson, a seasoned leader, goes on “Joni Table Talk” in 2013.

3. John Paul Jackson dies from cancer – February 18, 2015.

4. Marcus Lamb dies from COVID on same date as confession – November 30, 2021.

Because you did not trust in me enough to honor me as holy in the sight of the Israelites, you will not bring this community into the land I give them. –Numbers 20:12 (NIV)

When Good Bible Dads Become Pastors

Fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath,
but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.

–Ephesians 6:4 (NKJV)–

Though you might have ten thousand instructors in Christ,
yet you do not have many fathers;
for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the Gospel.

–1 Corinthians 4:15 (NKJV)–

And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.
–Deuteronomy 6:6-7 NKJV)–

1  Here is a trustworthy saying: Whoever aspires to be an overseer desires a noble task. Now the overseer is to be above reproach, faithful to his wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. He must manage his own family well and see that his children obey him, and he must do so in a manner worthy of full respect. (If anyone does not know how to manage his own family, how can he take care of God’s church?) He must not be a recent convert, or he may become conceited and fall under the same judgment as the devil. He must also have a good reputation with outsiders, so that he will not fall into disgrace and into the devil’s trap.
–1 Timothy 3:1-7 (NIV)–

Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as his children. For what children are not disciplined by their father? If you are not disciplined—and everyone undergoes discipline—then you are not legitimate, not true sons and daughters at all.
–Hebrews 12:7-8 (NIV)–

Do not call anyone on earth ‘father,’
for you have one Father, and he is in heaven.

–Matthew 23:9 (NIV)–
