CBN, “Joan Fitzgerald: In the Authority of His Name.” In 2005, Joan prayed for a woman named Leslie in North Church in Carrollton, Texas. Leslie suffered from rheumatoid arthritis. In 2005, Joan says Leslie’s knees deteriorated so far that both needed to be replaced. In a wheelchair, Leslie was unable to bear her own weight. Joan asked Leslie to stand up on her own in the name of Jesus. When Leslie got out of the chair, the congregation held their breath. Then she began to walk, then run and then dance. The room went wild…Joan prayed for a man named Mike who was confined to a wheelchair after suffering a severe neck and spinal cord injury. His hands and feet had grown severely twisted and he was in constant pain. Then Joan prayed for Mike and anointed him with oil. His feet untwisted, he stood, kicked the wheelchair behind him and began to walk. Today he is totally healed and living a blessed life.

Charles Spurgeon, “The Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus.” This proves the futility of all opposition to Christ. The learned are going to destroy the Christian religion. Already, according to their boastings, it has pretty nearly come to an end. The pulpit is effete, it cannot command public attention. We stand up and preach to empty decently benches! Nothing remains for us but to die decently, so they insinuate. And what then? When our Lord was dead, when the clay-cold corpse lay, watched by the Roman soldiery, and with a seal upon the enclosing stone, was not the cause in mortal jeopardy? But how fared it? Did it die out? Every disciple that Jesus had made forsook him, and fled, was not Christianity then destroyed? Nay, that very day our Lord won a victory which shook the gates of hell, and caused the universe to stand astonished. Matters are not worse with him at this hour! His affairs are not in a sadder condition to-day than then. Nay, see him to-day and judge. On his head are many crowns, and at his feet the hosts of angels bow! Jesus is the master of legions to-day, while the Caesars have passed away!

SCOT MCKNIGHT’S “DECONSTRUCTION” IDEA IS JUST LIBERALISM

He says that people who see problems with clergy sexual abuse in Bible believing churches need to do the following things to stay strong Christians:

1. Stop equating being a Bible believer with being a Republican.

2. Tolerate gays in their homosexual lifestyle.

3. Christians really need to be involved with economic inequality issues.

4. Reject the Biblical doctrine of Hell. Become a universalist.

5. Reject the authority, inspiration, and inerrancy of Scripture.

6. Reject complementarian gender roles.

7. Let Christian youth watch Harry Potter movies. If you do, then you’ll be cool.

8. Reject original sin; and instead view all non-Christians as basically good people.

9. Reject young earth creation; and accept theistic evolution as the truth.

10. Listen to backsliders and be friends with them, because that’s what statistics say.

11. Worship the liberal, progressive “Jesus” instead of the Jesus of the Bible.

12. Completely reject lordship salvation. Embrace universalism and easy believism.

Scot McKnight, “What Are They Deconstructing?” (Sept. 30, 2024). Scot is a pastor in the Anglican Church In North America (ACNA). I went to one once. I stopped because the elder I spoke with used the f-word openly in front of my kids. I didn’t bother going a second time.

Woodbury said he had experiences of the “baptism in the Holy Spirit,” and seems to be describing his “mystic” involvement in the 1950s Southern Baptist Convention. He later said that these “love” feelings were from the devil, because they never led him to repentance and faith in the cross. According to him, the pastoral circles he was associated with were into a sort of Christian universalism and ecumenism. As a result of this, they downplayed the authority of Scripture and there was absolutely no preaching on sin, righteousness, and judgment; no preaching on eternal punishment, repentance, or substitutionary atonement, which he eventually found was being preached in the Sword of the Lord IFB type churches that followed Dr. John R. Rice. He had used the NRSV Bible, adhered to neo-orthodoxy (Karl Barth, Reinhold Niebuhr), and theistic evolution. God was viewed only as Love, but not as a holy Judge that punishes the wicked eternally. There were a lot of smokers at the Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, NC. And then he went to Crozer Theological Seminary in Upland, PA, which is an American Baptist school, which had cussing professors, who denied the deity, virgin birth, blood, and resurrection of Christ, preached universalism, and had a Jewish rabbi as a teacher. He said he never called Jesus “Lord” in prayer until after he was saved (1 Cor. 12:3). “I left the Southern Baptist Convention. I became an Independent Baptist preacher” (36:47), he said, because the SBC was filled with “modernism,” and this was in 1951: he said the SBC preachers didn’t really believe in the Bible as the Word of God. I’m sad to say, that I fear these sentiments are still alive and well in the SBC today, but there is some good among younger SBC pastors who look up to Paul Washer and Voddie Baucham. I fear that the same kind of liberal beliefs and attitudes are probably very alive and well in Assembly of God, Church of God (Cleveland), and the Pentecostal Holiness Church. I’d say that both Baptist and Pentecostal preachers that want to do right should not lose sight of Dr. John R. Rice and his Sword of the Lord materials. I’d also remain extremely wary of entering pastoral ministry at this point; and would be more inclined towards building an itinerant evangelistic ministry that feeds on the KJV Bible, Spurgeon, Finney, Wesley, Edwards, Whitefield, Ravenhill, Sword of the Lord, Kregel, and old books from Gospel Publishing House and Pathway Press. –J.B.
