The Antinomian Controversy: Catholics, Baptists, and Wesleyans
He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us,
that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
–2 CORINTHIANS 5:21 (NKJV)–
14 What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? 17 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. 18 But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. 19 You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble! 20 But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead? 21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar? 22 Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect? 23 And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.” And he was called the friend of God. 24 You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only. 25 Likewise, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out another way? 26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
–JAMES 2:14-26 (NKJV)–

You gotta keep ’em separated
Like the latest fashion
Like a spreading disease
The kids are strappin’ on their way to the classroom
Gettin’ weapons with the greatest of ease
The gangs stake out their own campus locale
And if they catch you slippin’, then it’s all over, pal
If one guy’s colors and the other’s don’t mix
They’re gonna bash it up, bash it up, bash it up, bash it up
Hey! Man, you talkin’ back to me?
Take him out
You gotta keep ’em separated
Hey! Man, you disrespectin’ me?
Take him out
You gotta keep ’em separated
Hey, don’t pay no mind
If you’re under 18, you won’t be doing any time
Hey! Come out and play
By the time you hear the siren
It’s already too late
One goes to the morgue, and the other to jail
One guy’s wasted, and the other’s a waste
It goes down the same as the thousand before
No one’s getting smarter
No one’s learning the score
Your never-ending spree of death and violence and hate
Is gonna tie your own rope, tie your own rope, tie your own
Hey! Man, you disrespectin’ me?
Take him out
You gotta keep ’em separated
Hey! Man, you talkin’ back to me?
Take him out
You gotta keep ’em separated
Hey, don’t pay no mind
If you’re under 18, you won’t be doing any time
Hey! Come out and play
It goes down the same as the thousand before
No one’s getting smarter
No one’s learning the score
Your never-ending spree of death and violence and hate
Is gonna tie your own rope, tie your own rope, tie your own
Hey! Man, you talkin’ back to me?
Take him out
You gotta keep ’em separated
Hey! Man, you disrespectin’ me?
Take him out
You gotta keep ’em separated
Hey, don’t pay no mind
If you’re under 18, you won’t be doing any time
Hey! Come out and play

The Death Penalty Properly Executed By the State
Murderer: covered in sangre
Murderer: blood on your shoulders
Karma: how does it feel?
Karma: to take a life?
Wailin’: wailing in vain
Wailin’: you’ll reap what you sow!
Thou shalt not kill
Thou shalt not kill
Thou shalt not kill
Thou shalt not kill
Shot!
Robbing your family
Robbing your friends
Robbing your best friends, you
Rapist: you’ll have no redemption
Burn, burn, burn
Its comin’ back around at you
Its comin’ back around
I might just come after you
I just might come after, but you’ll never know
Broke the first commandment
Thou shalt not kill
Thou shalt not kill
Thou shalt not kill
Thou…
Face your judgment!

Whoever sheds man’s blood,
by man his blood shall be shed;
for in the image of God He made man.
–Genesis 9:6 (NKJV)–
He who strikes a man so that he dies
shall surely be put to death.
–Exodus 21:12 (NKJV)–
The one in authority is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for rulers do not bear the sword for no reason. They are God’s servants, agents of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer.
–Romans 13:4 (NIV)–
The agent of the law who puts the criminal to death is not guilty of murder; rather, it is the law itself which puts him to death…those who have waged war at God’s command, or in accordance with His laws, have represented in their persons the public justice or the wisdom of government, and in this capacity have put to death wicked men; such persons have by no means violated the commandment, “Thou shalt not kill.”

The Essence of Salvation Which Catholics and Protestants Agree Upon
I believe in God the Father almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth.
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son,
our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended into hell; the third day
He rose again from the dead;
He ascended into heaven, and sits at
the right hand of God the Father
almighty, from thence He shall come
to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy Catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body and life everlasting.
Amen.
–The Apostles’ Creed (390 A.D.)–
—
He is the Good Shepherd
And He’s laid down His life for His sheep
So out of many nations
He’s gathered one fold in one faith
And He has built His church
On the rock foundation of faith
On apostles and prophets
Who shepherd the people in His place
There is one faith, one hope
And one baptism
One God and Father of all
There is one church, one body
One life in the Spirit
Now given so freely to all
And He gave to Simon Peter
And to all of the Twelve
The keys of the kingdom
So darkness shall never prevail
But some of the shepherds
Have pastured themselves on their sheep
So He has come out against them
And scattered His people of faith
But there still is one faith, one hope
And one baptism
One God and Father of all
There is one church, one body
One life in the Spirit
Now given so freely to all
In good pasture He will shepherd His people
On the mountaintops He feeds His sheep
He will heal the poor and the fickle
To the prisoner He brings relief
So there is one faith, one hope
And one baptism
One God and Father of all
There is one church, one body
One life in the Spirit
Now given so freely to all
Yet He’ll not forsake His people
He’ll claim His sheep for His own
He’ll send out His word to the nations
To gather His people back home
For He is the Good Shepherd
He’s laid down His life for His sheep
So out of many nations
He’s gathered one fold in one faith
There is one faith, one hope
And one baptism
One God and Father of all
There is one church, one body
One life in the Spirit
Now given so freely to all
There is one faith, one hope
And one baptism
One God and Father of all
There is one church, one body
One life in the Spirit
Now given so freely
Given so freely to all

The Romish doctrine concerning purgatory, pardon, worshiping, and adoration, as well of images as of relics, and also invocation of saints, is a fond thing, vainly invented, and grounded upon no warrant of Scripture, but repugnant to the Word of God.

Catechism of the Catholic Church (USCCB Publishing, 1995), part 1.2.2.4.2. “For our sake God made him to be sin.” Consequently, St. Peter can formulate the apostolic faith in the divine plan of salvation in this way: “You were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your fathers…with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot. He was destined before the foundation of the world but was made manifest at the end of the times for your sake.” Man’s sins, following on original sin, are punishable by death. By sending his own Son in the form of a slave, in the form of a fallen humanity, on account of sin, God “made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” (602).

Samuel Waldron, A Modern Exposition of the 1689 Baptist Confession of Faith (Evangelical Press, 1989).

Voice of America, “Mel Gibson’s ‘The Passion of the Christ’ Provokes Worldwide Controversy.” If you really believe in your faith you will be persecuted for it and there is a sacrifice in each faith that many people won’t understand and make fun of. This film does not play the ‘blame game’ in any means. You will see, like in all humanity, it is us up there. There are good people, bad people, indifferent people: we are all culpable in the death of Christ and this film portrays that [Mel Gibson].
David Wilkerson, The Cross and the Switchblade (Spire Books, 1973). In the Spring of 1966, two Duquesne University professors were ASKING, SEEKING, and KNOCKING. They had pledged themselves to pray daily for a greater outpouring of the Holy Spirit in their lives using the beautiful Sequence Hymn of Pentecost. In the midst of this time of prayer, some friends gave them two books: The Cross and the Switchblade and They Speak With Other Tongues. Both books describe the experience of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit. The men from Duquesne realized that this Baptism in the Spirit was precisely what they were searching for [Patti Gallagher Mansfield].

Free Love: A Sick, Twisted, Cruel Perversion of Romance
Just a fascination of what lies beyond
A life that’s free
Under mind responsibility
My greatness is wide
Love of self, the lie
Curse the scrutiny
Embrace the thought inside
I will, manipulate
You will capitulate
What you’ve given me is a path perverted
Adapted, disjointed philosophies
Emotional dependence
My grasp is relentless
Perfected in mind
Planted and instilled
This formation of a dark temptation
The ease of it all
Disease enthralled
This fantastic dream
Subject to a darker scheme
I will, manipulate
You will capitulate
What you’ve given me is a path perverted
Adapted, disjointed philosophies
Emotional dependence
My grasp is relentless
Your love becomes inverted
A path becomes perverted
I watched them drown
Under a clear blue sky
Weighted with guilt
I saw them die
