The Errors of the New Apostolic Reformation – Living Waters

The guys at Living Waters are Bible-believing, fundamentalist, evangelical believers; and they lean in the Calvinist continuationist direction. I would consider myself a Wesleyan Pentecostal and also a continuationist. But I completely agree with them that the NAR is a doctrinally misguided and false charismatic movement, which exalts personal spiritual experience above the authority of the Bible, and above preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ with repentance and Hell mixed in. Without books like Harald Lindstrom’s Wesley and Sanctification (Zondervan, 1983), or Thomas C. Oden’s John Wesley’s Teachings (4 vols; Zondervan, 2014), or Vic Reasoner’s Fundamental Wesleyan Systematic Theology (3 vols; FWP, 2021), or E. S. Williams’ Systematic Theology (3 vols; GPH, 1953)–this last one is from Assemblies of God: without important reference works like this, it would be hard for me to say with any degree of confidence that a Pentecostal or charismatic pastor wouldn’t be completely “tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching” that comes from Destiny Image authors and the NAR (Ephesians 4:14). I believe in the usefulness of contemplative prayer, Biblical dream interpretation, seeking the felt presence of God in worship, and delivering prophetic words; but I DO NOT believe any of those things are more important than obeying the Bible and preaching repentance, faith in the blood, the new birth, and warning people about eternal punishment.  –J.B.
