Charles Finney Was a Congregationalist Pastor

Evangelical Congregational Church, “Assurance and Apostasy.”

Specifically, Charles Finney was pastor for 37 years at what is now called the First Church in Oberlin. It is now part of the mainline liberal denomination called the United Church of Christ; and they are basically unbelievers, allow gay marriage, and evolution doctrine. Completely unlike Finney believed: he was more in line with Bible-believing fundamentalism and Wesleyan-holiness theology. He also was a young earth creationist, because he assumed that it has been “six thousand years” that “God has been hearing” people constantly shift the blame to other factors to explain why they can’t live for God (Sermons on Gospel Themes, p. 98).

I’m under the impression that because of these liberal developments, faithful Finney-following pastors, broke away from the UCC and formed the following Bible-believing Congregationalist denominations: CHURCH OF CHRIST, etc.
