Scripture has very negative things to say about luxury of all types; and “fine houses” are included (see Deut. 8:10-14; Ezek. 26:12; Prov. 13:7; 30:8; Heb. 13:5; James 5:5; Luke 16:19; 1 Timothy 6:17-18; Matthew 4:13, 12:42, and Mark 6:3).
