Romans 13: Respecting the Government and Expressing Biblical Love

In 13:1-7, the apostle Paul describes how and why Christians are to respect and submit to the government. In 13:8-14, he describes Biblical love as a spirit (5:5) that tries not to harm people, but rather expresses itself by obeying the Ten Commandments and all of the moral laws of God in Scripture. Biblical love should not be misunderstood as something romantic, sentimental, non-judgmental, or tolerant of sin: “love does not delight in evil” (1 Cor. 13:6).
